3 Simple Steps to Stop the Overwhelm & Find Calm in the Chaos

Ever get those “AHHHHH!!! I can’t cope! There’s too much to do! Not enough time! I don’t know where to start!” moments? Where you feel panicked, tense, your throat tightens and your breath shortens?..

Well, I hear ya! I feel that this is very much an occupational hazard of the life loving, ambitious, creative lass that wants SO much from life but has SO many day to day tasks to get through without even contemplating how to progress & develop what’s really important to you… be it your career, your health & wellness goals, building beautiful and lasting friendships or satisfying that burning desire to play the guitar ‘till your heart’s content…

For me it’s bringing my boys up to be amazing human beings, to live life healthy and full of vitality, to share my passion for life with the world and to help other people live life in abundance and in heartfelt flow, all with a tidy house and a peaceful mind! Haha, just the last two tasks are sometimes impossible, especially with two toddlers added to the mix!

But with this multitude of passions and desires occasionally comes the suffocating panic that THERES JUST TOO BLOODY MUCH TO DO! And at this point, nothing is clear, your mind jumbles into chaos and it appears f-ing impossible that ANY of your goals, dreams or even day to day tasks are going to get done…

But fear not, these moments can be limited, minimised and managed in a productive, efficient manner so that they cease to take us on their swirling downward journey into shiteville…

calm

So in these moments of madness, I find it really useful to carry out the following three things to get my mojo back and get my crazy-arse back in flow, living life with a light heart and being productive, effortlessly in flow…

1)     Really simple but just decide now to STOP. Take a big breath in, relax your shoulders, find your centre. Realign yourself. I find that with my right hand in a prayer formation in the middle of my chest, my mind aligns to my heart and with a breath in, a click of the neck I can gain back control of my thoughts… Standing in your favourite yoga pose with hands in prayer or stretching your arms as high above your head as possible is also very calming, centering and gets your energies back in balance

2)      Get clear on what it is you’re trying to do and decide what is more important, now, in this moment to get done. In other words prioritise. And write it down. Make a list of the things that need to be done NOW and then make a short and long term To Do list. As things come to mind, you may want to pop them down or simply just write the next three things you are going to do, whatever works best for you. That way they’re out of your head, you’ve got them down on paper and you won’t panic that you’ll forget them. You can work calmly through your list knowing what to focus on now and next and safe in the knowledge that everything that needs doing, will get done in the near future.

3)      Now to really enjoy the process, it is of paramount importance to visualise the task at hand being completed, in its full glory and to the best of your ability… it helps me to repeat in my head, for example “my house is organised, tidy and energy flows freely in and around it…” or “I have replied to my backlog of emails, my diary is up to date and I have booked my train ticket for the weekend…” whatever it is that you want to achieve today, in the next 2 hours or get through in the next half an hour (especially helpful when dealing with a temper tantrum or meltdown moment in the supermarket!)…

Visualising the task complete puts you in the frame of mind that it is done, this calms you down, enables you to see clearly what needs to be done next in order for it to be completed and free’s you up to glide and flow in relaxed concentration from one task to the next…

And hey presto! Before you know it, the tasks are done, or if not completely, you would have made bloody good progress!

It’s about enjoying every moment, doing everything to the best of our abilities and in a relaxed and creative manner…

So, this really reflects the power of having a clear vision of where you are going… no matter how far away you are, as long as you imagine yourself at your goal and work step by step, in flow, with a positive mind towards your vision, before you know it, you’ll be there, living the dream/ in a clean house/ at the weekend having drinks with your bezzies!

If however, you let panic take grip, get overwhelmed and your head is full of “I can’t get through this” or “there’s just too much to do”, then that is exactly what you will experience. You are creating your life through your thoughts…

So relax, breathe, formulate, design, feel, own and love your vision as if it were yours already, take baby steps towards it EVERY DAY~ with flow and with the knowledge that you are on your way~ yeah baby! Before you know it you’ll be there, looking back going “how the heck did that happen?! Lovely jubbly!
